I don't understand

How could you have a great friend or really close friend here but you guys have no alternative means of communication and if suddenly something happened and this person left the site, you'll never know what really happened.

I have contact information for a number of my friends but that doesn't guarantee anything. Online friendships are weird, they don't seem as durable or sincere as in life friendships..
One friend left and ghosted me after a few text messages and stopped responding to emails.
I thought we were close 😔
