I don't understand

How could you have a great friend or really close friend here but you guys have no alternative means of communication and if suddenly something happened and this person left the site, you'll never know what really happened.

Human communication is actually very complex and only about 7-10% of it is verbal. I think we only call people “friends “ on the internet because it’s a relatively new phenomenon and we don’t have a word for it yet that wouldn’t offend someone
