They tried to rip me off. My test identifies a fake ruby and I get a new one. Here are the before and after pictures after my test

So, yesterday I got a 11 carat Ruby(So called), it came with a certificate. But I wanted to test it myself and I did this test. See the results.
This was how it came to me
[image]This was the test I conducted
[image]If its synthetic or fake, the lead and glass mixture will react to the acid in the lemon juice.Basically, low grade corundrum is heated with lead and glass to give it a high quality ruby texture. But if its fake these led glass line fissures will appear.
And it did. This is the after test picture.
[image]Can you notice the white lines and marks on it?
So, i asked them to pick it up and refund me. Then I go to the best dealer here and get this pure ruby.
[image] This is original. The stone on the original is much smaller, only 1 carat, as opposed to 11 carats on the fake one and is 8 times costlier excluding the gold, but you can clearly see the difference in quality. The original Ruby is blood pigeon red, it doesnt reflect light, doesnt have the glassy feel to it, it just absorbs the light and glows red. Also, look at the way the light is passing, one side is clearer, the other side is darker. The Darker side is a natural inclusion. It wont be there inside a Synthetic(Lab created) or artificial fake ruby, since they are made by heating methods where things are melted into a particular shape, one cant really effect whats inside or under the heated surface, and if one does that, it will turn out to be more expensive than an earth mined natural Ruby. And thats why Synthetic(Lab grown) and Fake(Total Fakes made of Glass and Lead) are clear without any inclusions.

So, all in all I,m happy with the 2nd one.

The first one.....did you really believe that was real? What did you intend to do with it as it was....just a gem with no setting? Did you intend to have it set in a ring or something?

I have a lot of ruby jewellery. But most rubys bought in jewellers these days are created rubies, not natural ones, abd there is a huge price difference.

@RubySoo yeh, i did hope so, that it would atleast be a low grade Ruby.I intended it for a ring. i know, but this ring that I have is certified as natural by a competant authority and is from a prominent jweller, also I inspected it for natural inclusions, which I compared to inclusions as shown by GIA, very similiar. One reason why its just one carat and also was expensive to that measure.Lab grown Synthetic Rubies are mostly perfect from what I have noticed. You can see the difference in the type of inclusions. You can also see if the inclusions are fake or real based on the pattern itself.

@jhontomreturns1 will you be able to get any sort of refund/ compensation?

@RubySoo For the first one yes.I will be able to!!. 2nd one, since its an established jweller, they give you a gaurantee and exchange card. You can return it back to them if you arent happy. But i,m happy.
