Now the police are getting shot while they sit in their patrol cars.

Who didn't see that coming?
Will police officers start resigning?
Not a job I'd want.

This isn’t exactly the first time it’s just the first public incident in the current climate and they’ve already had officers resigning in a lot of cases it’s people of rank all the way up to chief and many elected sheriffs don’t plan on extending their term. It’s definitely not a job that many want and I think that’s part of the problem. If the level headed aren’t occupying the force the they find ways to get people often attracting the wrong kind of police officer the “Rambo cop” for example. Usually typified by choosing the more “tactical” looking uniform option (think one piece military looking jumpsuit over the standard dress/work shirt and slacks. It’s gotten harder to spot this type as departments and agencies require tactical vests that have now become part of the uniform and are purposely made to look less militant. Other extreme examples are bully type officer who seems to enjoy playing disciplinarian and fails to educate the public they serve. I just hope the Louisville metro PD can become an example of how to reform and that B.Taylors death puts an end to any other tragic mistakes when doing something as important and high risk as serving a felony warrant. I also hope that all departments review their policies and regulations on when it’s the right time to use lethal force and how to avoid getting to that point by using your communication skills as well as less than lethal options. I just hope this all helps in some way. We can’t continue on the way we were. Time for a reboot. Not a defunding but definitely a re-education and a close look at officers deemed problem cases. Time for the good to separate themselves from the ones making them look bad.
