Good thing? Bad thing? I always think they lose business if their patients get well. And also that so much is merely subjective. My mentor was a PHD MFT, and she said many people go into that field to fix themselves.
many people go into that field to fix themselves
I believe that, I've always said that. They are no different than us. I think there is far too many boxed in, structured labels and definitions applied, that dehumanizes us. Even earning the degree is based on structured/biased knowledge. One could only be proficient and helpful if they truly understood the deeper human nature.
Great answer, insightful. I read The Book of Woe, about the DSM, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the standard for diagnoses. I know that until 1985, homosexuality was in there as a mental illness. This book points out how useless the DSM has become. @Magenta https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16158529-the-book-of-woe
@FlowersNButterflies Thank you. :-) Ah interesting, I have not read that. Perhaps I should. But I think we use far too many labels for (sometimes) what is merely human emotion or hormonal fluctuations.
