Have you ever suspected an SW user as actually being a Russian troll account?

I don't think SW has enough influence to be worth it to the Russians.

Still, the other day I was reading someone's posts and replies. And the possibility did cross my mind for a brief time. 😂

Why not? I belong to a couple of boards dealing mostly with hunting and shooting sports. Before each election we get a batch of posts from "good freedom loving Russians" telling us how great it is in the motherland and how wrong we are about Putin. These sites don't have large memberships, but they each get a couple of guys "assigned" to show mother Russia in the best light. Oh the same two guys appear a few months before every general election and kind of fade away afterward.

@bowman81 Interesting. Maybe my first impression was not so far off...

Long before social networking sites the West spared no effort to broadcast behind the "Iron Curtain" in an attempt to influence those to change governments that we felt would be easier to work with.

The Brits and Germans were very open in their opposition to Trump.

I seem to remember the US being open and supportive of Boris Yelsin in his rise to power. The Obama administration made no secret of the fact that they would rather not have Netanyahu in charge in Israel. There is some evidence that they provided organizational aide and expertise to assist the opposition party there as well.

I guess my point is that I expect nations to try to influence other nations and their people to gain advantage if they can. Social media is a just a rather new tool in the arsenal.
