Your comment is the wrong way round. Harsh though we may still be, we are a massive improvement on our primitive ancestors and -difficult though it may be to accept, demonstrably less harsh than even the daily barbarities of our immediate predecessors. A seminal study by Steven Pinker "The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined" demonstrates this trend over human history with near mathematical precision. Worth a read.

@JovialPlutonian I was merely commenting on the presumption that we had somehow deteriorated to the current state of harshness, whereas the reality is that, taken as a whole, humanity is progressively becoming less harsh. We are still a load of shits, but not quite as bad as our predecessors!

@april50 oh I accept what you’re saying I just do see that as justification for how we still choose to behave. I suppose it all comes down to ignorance, should be of no surprise humans lack awareness.
