BEIRUT —A pair of explosions shook central Beirut on Tuesday, shattering sections of nearby buildings and forcing passersby to the ground as shock waves rippled through the air.

Lebanon's head of general security, Abbas Ibrahim, said a warehouse housing highly explosive materials caught fire in the city's port, causing a major explosion.
