How do you all react to an insult?

I've never received an insult to my face, although - of course, like everyone else - I have been attacked online for no reason. Normally, I'm not bothered and see no point in wasting my time on them. I prefer to ignore the insulter(s) and exit the Internet. However, on extremely bad days, I sometimes sit there and feel tempted to sling an insult back at them. It's terrible - the hot, sudden pain that lances through my chest as I stare at the glaring comment on my screen. But I usually murmur a blessing over them, slowly close my computer, and find something else to do.

How do you react when someone insults you - whether it's online or face-to-face (not looking for advice - just curious about what you would do)?

if its a stranger in the street you should get right in their face so they instantly regret it and then they'll back off and probably not do it again. If you ignore that stuff it gives em confidence.
If its online then its pathetic anyway because the person has nothing better to do so just laugh at them.
That being said, if you can show them up with wit or make them look like a deuce then go with that option.

@Outoforbits: Fortunately, I have never received an insult face-to-face, and I hope that I never will have to deal with such a situation (although I'm certain that it may happen at one point in life). I think I would probably walk away or at least ask in a threatening voice, "What was that?"

Online - I agree with you. It's normally easy for me to ignore it and carry on, but when it does hurt, I might shoot back a polite comment that tears apart their insult. Only if I'm certain that I have a strong argument. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. xx
Yeah i only say the former now because i used to be very passive and it got me mugged so with some people you've just gotta scare the crap out of them . Nobody expects it and they look silly/their friends all shit themselves. Just remember, knees and elbows hurt the most :)
(i'm actually not a violent person lol) no worries x

@Outoforbits: I'm not entirely sure if I could scare people, considering that I'm petite and appear non-threatening! But I think that learning to be assertive would definitely help my situation - I've been improving in that area, but I still need to work on it.

(No, you don't seem like one to me haha)
Yeah and we all learn to be assertive at some point. You'll tend to find that as soon as you change your attitude towards yourself, everyone else follows.
