I just found out about non-religious churches. There's one that was interviewed on video that I just saw. The usual members are those who are agnostic, humanist, atheist, and maybe some others. But they still feel a sense of wanting to fit into a community.
So my question is for those of you who are non-religious or the like, would you attend such a gathering if there was one reasonable close to you?

There is one reasonably close to me and I have considered visiting it, but my time is filled with too many other things-- some of them pretty unimportant, like SW!

Sounds like a cult. Thats a big nopers for me. Join a sewing club or skateboard gang or whateva.
@Selah any religion can be called a cult. It's just one's point of view. Also, this is not one where you're forced to attend.

The most excepting of those would probably be Unitarian Universalist because of the huge base of types of service.

We are Unitarian Universalist and Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, atheist and agnostic, believers in God, and more. On the forefront of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer inclusion for more than 40 years, we are people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

And yes I have thought about it. I have known about them almost the whole 40 years of their existence. Maybe even slightly longer.

I knew of one that was discussing about it 45 years ago. Even if it was only a concept. And my half brother most likely was ordained by them. Not certain there. He never actually used it to my knowledge.
@DeWayfarer I've heard of that one too. I just never seen any near where I live. Otherwise I would have tried it by now.

@froggtongue I am wiccan. So other than my early experiences I still would know of them. Members occasionally visited our ceremonies. They usually were very quiet and respectful.

agnostic, humanist, atheist, are all religions. Religion does not require a god. It is simply a believe firmly held based on faith.
@hippyjoe1955 would you be willing to give a sermon on that topic in this non-religious church?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@froggtongue Why would I want to cast pearls before swine? They believe what they believe based on their faith.

It just seems a social-club. Nothing wrong with that, but why call it a "church"?
@ArishMell maybe that's all it is. Call it semantics. But there's perhaps more culture in it. If I remember from when I posted this, they do the things that churches would do like have marriages performed and funeral rights.

@froggtongue Oh, I see! I know a lot of non-church buildings here in the UK are now licensed for weddings; but not as their primary function.
That sounds like an interesting concept.

I never heard of churches like that but i went to a synagogue like that once ...

Maybe, but I already do in a way being part of a non religious spiritual self help group.

I wouldn't attend the actual services, but I'd be up in the community work and shit.

It'd be like N/A beer or Decaf Coffee.. Generally an utterly pointless waste of time.
@OMEGA ha ha 😄 Well, that's your take. Can't fault you for answering.
