I Want To Talk About Community

I've been wondering about this for awhile..
Why is there a Black history month, and not White history month.?
Why is there a Miss Black America, but the Miss America is for all races?
There are Black Food Festivals.
There are Scholarships just for the black.
And why is Presidents Day for all Presidents, but MLK has his own day, but wasn't a president? I realize he was a big part of Black history, but I don't think he should get his own Day.
Sorry if all this offends anyone, I'm just curious.

We might just be and in that way are privileged but we struggle too yes. We don’t all have it made and we haven’t all,of us benefited from racial bias. Some of us don’t have crap and resent the people that get it for free judt because of the color of their skin.

@Spoiledbrat A thing I have seen recently that has made it easier for me to understand, just saying someone has white privilege is not saying they have it made or have it easy. It just means that among all the things you have had against you, the colour of your skin hasn't been one of them. And while a lot of things like scholarships seem like they are giving a bias, it is trying to counter the problem that a lot of people may not be accepted by colleges because of the colour of their skin (not necessarily because of deliberate refusal by the college, it could be subconscious or all sorts of things), unless there is some way to make colleges accept them.
But a lot of people have potential but can’t afford to go. A lot of people have problems. And a lot of white people have problems people of color might not have and we don’t get free shit. But you don’t have to educate me. Like Latinas for example, many come here, have children and get welfare. Many white people can’t afford to have kids so being held back by something that happened 200 years ago. Many white didn’t benefit from those biases. And many Black people don’t feel not privileged as they have made their own way. In fact, some of them resent part of black culture that’s causing and outbreaks of chaos. @ScottishLulu

@ScottishLulu That is it ScottishLulu and myself being white I was at one time also offended by the phrase "white privilege." I was raised lower middle class to poor, began working as a farm laborer at the age of 15 and have worked full time ever since. Borrowed money to go to college, finished and became a registered professional and am still repaying my student loan. It did not feel privileged to me as from my perspective "privilege" was those whose parents paid their tuition into prestigious colleges not those borrowing money to attend a state university. But the "privilege" was that police did not routinely pull me over and put guns to my head for no reason. No one ever called the police on me for no reason. When I applied for new jobs or filled out apartment leasing applications I was never rejected because I was white.
Just because someone experiences racism doesn’t mean everyone is bigoted racist and or privileged. @Dominus

@Spoiledbrat Not once in my life have I ever claimed or heard anyone else claim that "everyone is bigoted, racist and or privileged." Therefore I don't understand the purpose of this comment directed to me which you did not address directly to me but instead added my name to the end of?
That ‘is’ adding to you. I just put the curser in front. I’ve been here for 4 years and that’s how I’ve always done it.

Anyway just because someone experiences something troubling doesn’t mean everyone one who didn’t experience it should be made to feel bad because of it or like they are a bad person for it. And it doesn’t mean they haven’t experienced bad things. @Dominus

@Spoiledbrat Thank you for clarifying.
