@cycleman due process is law regardless of circumstance
cycleman · 61-69, M
@TryingtoLava The Officer greatly failed
@cycleman o i agree it was horrible af and i hope he goes to jail but law is law i mean even nazis got nuremberg trials
PrivateHell · M
@cycleman I agree the officer failed, and so far the evidence says it was an unlawful death. But, without due process, you are no different than the cop is. You are taking matters in your own hands without a trial or defense the same way it appears the cop did Mr. Floyd.
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@TryingtoLava Agreed... abuse of authority is unforgivable, and if found guilty in a *public court* and is not given proper judicial considerations then yes - the anger is well placed.
I strongly doubt any one is going to be able to prove the officer purposefully singled out whether him or any person and targetd him for death.

@HeteroDox Due process—more than the dead man received, yes ? 😳
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard that still doesn't justify mob justice. We're supposed to be civilized beyond accusations of execution of witchcraft, and the same could be said of any perpetrator. Soooo... why wait?
lets round up everyone and save the tax dollars of feeding them in preison... believe me I'm for it - except that circumstance is never black and white.

@bijouxbroussard Variety of reasons people are held in remand. Serious crimes fit the bill. It's right there on video - at the very least it's assault-based manslaughter or murder. They've had quite a bit of time to think about it. If they were this slow with the average arrest the prisons would be empty.

@HeteroDox That’s why we wouldn’t lynch him, which was not the OP’s question. But we certainly arrest people and they remain in jail while awaiting trial, and due process is still considered observed. 🤔
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard but because the same system is designed for all, hes not forced to sit in a jail cell anymore than you would be.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Abstraction Exactly. This fellow died because of the accusation of a forged check. Eric Garner was choked to death in 2014 by a police officer for the crime of suspicion of selling untaxed tobacco cigarettes. That police officer is still free.

@HeteroDox You don’t know that I wouldn’t be, because I don’t—and that’s the point.
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard but you seem sure that you would.
bijouxbroussard · F
@HeteroDox Yes, I live here and know how things often work. “Allegedly” ? Did you see the footage of the police officer on that man’s neck ?
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@HeteroDox
Allegedly.
Are you serious? He was killed on television. There's sufficient there to press charges and if it turns out it was caused by something else, (sudden attack of Covid-19 perhaps) well, his lawyers can defend him.
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@Abstraction Hysterical asphyxia... its real, you can look it up if you need actually. Very common accident with arrest situation and even preventable if acted upon fast enough. I just don't subscribe to mob justice, sorry.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@HeteroDox Actually pretty damn sure if there was video evidence of me in an identical situation someone I would be arrested and jailed awaiting trial.
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@CountScrofula So you are certain of the circumstance of the mans death. Glad to meet you, doctor? officer? surgeon is it?
bijouxbroussard · F
@HeteroDox Nobody’s talking about lynching the police officer. They get to lynch people, and it’s been a tradition in this country.
If someone wanted to arrest Trudeau on “alleged” rape charges, would you be defending him this vigorously ?
