Got news. Abusers will abuse no matter, what, no matter where, no matter who. They don't need a quarantine to do it.

Have instances risen? Yup. Don't think for a second this pandemic has "made" anyone into a violent, mean, power-weak coward.

And no, the increase in the level of domestic abuse does not, can not and will not justify the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. Had we simply shut everything down for 6 weeks, COVID-19 would be a word we only used in the past tense.

@Graylight I'm going to disagree there. Lockdown isn't meant to stop covid-19, it's to slow the rate of infection so as to not overwhelm the medical system, so there can be enough hospital beds open. Complete lockdown doesn't stop covid-19, a cure or vaccine will do that. There's not going to be a vaccine until next year. While I'm not against lockdown, you can't have a lockdown until next year, the economy will collapse, there will be unemployment and people will starve.

@basilfawlty89 That's arguable, respectfully. The virus doesn't live well on surfaces and the way in which it's spread is human to human contact almost without fail. If humans stopped all unknown contact, the virus would simply die off. Completely? Probably it's with us forever now, but we could be much, much, much better off had we attacked it on its level instead of waiting for it to meet us at ours.
