What is your thought on home school curriculum?

Just thinking that if schools don’t reopen in the fall or even if they reopen in a limited capacity I would rather full on home school than deal with the confusion of how it’s been negotiating all the different platforms various teachers are using. Not to knock any teachers I know they’re working hard and doing the best they can.
How many kids and what grade levels?

I'm a homeschool veteran and have been doing it since 2005. My younger girls are in public school right now and the work they've been given since March has been a laughable as learning. All they're getting are packets of review worksheets.

Lol I almost wish that was our issue! Our school is giving huge projects and research papers. Reports. Which is fine but really confusing when each teacher is using different platforms and inconsistently . Sometimes we’re in google classroom, sometimes is schoology, sometimes it’s email, sometimes it’s all on zoom, I wish they would all pick one platform. Oh and my kids, one will be a senior the other in 7th@ProdigalSummer

Yeah I’m really not capable of developing and teaching a curriculum for 12th grade and 8th grade while working full time and sharing custody. The current system is imperfect for sure but for those of us who have to work it’s just not feasible to fully homeschool.

My heart goes out to you! I’m fortunate to be able to work from home full time and I’m able to work around my kids right now. I can’t imagine how difficult this has been for you. Totally understand! @summersong

It could be a real cluster come fall

Yeah it's agonising for me where I live - they're trying to replicate a six hour school day online, and that just isn't going to work when there's no face to face, only videos

That’s exactly how it’s been for us! I’ve been hearing of so many schools giving limited curriculum but ours gosh. Reports and big science projects and research papers. It’s confusing for me to negotiate with my kids. I feel awful for any kiddos trying to do this on their own if mom and dad work and what not@SW-User

@TwistofFate1978 Exactly!

Had I known how badly the USA school system had indoctrinated our youth I’d have been on a mission to promote home school.. so I think it’s evil! I guess the cirrulum now during virus is not doing damage...

No lab classes for sciences, no hands-on pottery experiences for art, no singing together in music or orchestra or band classes, no field trips, language classes are not the same on ZOOM, physical education and sports are out the window. Probably a hundred other examples that I haven’t even thought of. Might as well enroll in home-school classes with a private company than deal with traditional schools.

@cherokeepatti that’s exactly what I’m thinking!

@TwistofFate1978 I have a feeling some of the older students may convince their parents to opt for it after this is over. Too much bullying in some schools and some of the public schools are really low-rated. One middle-school near here is rated a D & they have a drug problem with students. Those kids will walk around at night getting into vehicles to see what they can steal to sell & pay for drugs.

Ugh it is a possibility
