What are your thoughts on American police officers?

From a vantage point outside the US and only based on what we see in the media, they don't look great to be honest.
But I'm sure that's only because bad things always get the media's attention.

I'm sure the vast majority of them are good cops but there are over 1 million police officers in the US and some of them are killing people for no reason. Mostly minorities.
