How would you confront someone about body odor ?

I'm a supervisor at a mall and one of my associates has had a customer complain about her smell. She does have an odor and I'm unsure of how to confront her about it. 😕☹

Have you tried a group meeting just reminding everyone about hygiene as their dealing with customers, drop it in casually to see if they take the hint, then if not a private meeting..

That didn't work at a place where I used to work, and one woman threatened to sue when her son was taken aside and told he needed to step up his hygiene.

@cherokeepatti: when dealing with the public it's normally covered in their contract under appearances for them to be confronted over it..if it can be done more inconspicuous it's better but in some cases you have to make it an issue..
I suggested that to another manager but she said she wanted to do it directly because she may not get the hint. Well apparently the girl is aware of it because she sprays our children perfume (I work at a little girls store) everytime she comes in on her. But I will suggest that if the group meeting doesn't take affect we can speak to her directly.
@Primnproper: hygiene is defiently in the contract.

@Poptartinvasion: yes I did it that way first when I had to deal with and made it clear that if anyone lapsed in this area they would be spoken to directly and it worked because generally they know their not taking care of it and it spurs them to make an effort..
