Possibly because when you're 75 to 95, you likely won't be earning any more money.
Possibly because they lived through wars, depression, and epidemics and know what a lot of the world is learning right now - when you cash that paycheck, you do NOT know when you'll get the next one.
Possibly because they'd rather leave it to others in their will so they won't have to watch how it gets spent
Possibly because when they earned it, a dollar had much more significance.
And maybe, just because it's their money.

For one thing, they don't have much money left. And yes, many of them were conditioned to be frugal with money.

Who is the "silent generation" and what do you mean by being stingey with their money?

@BizSuitStacy It's hte term used for the generation that predates the baby boomers. People born in the late 1920s to early 1940s.
