Why do white people deny their evil colonial history?

My ancestors were colonized by Arabs and butchered to near extinction, never had any arabs acknowledge it.

And later the French who went to the extent of using them as lab rats for the aftermath of nuclear bombs besides other cruelties.

I don't think many confess the crimes that exist in their history because it affects the national boundaries and sentiments separating populations, I mean those very boundaries were the product of believing they were heroes. The binary in at the core of nationalism and belonging.

But I also think many wallow too much in victim-hood, some of it self made and blaming. The white generation of today is not the same that colonized those countries. They don't have an obligation to apologize or feel guilty and they shouldn't be blamed.

In fact, the power of most populations is illusionary. It is fundamentally the rich that guide democracies and decisions, no matter the era.
