Can someone please explain what daddy/mommy issues are?

Because I've heard people throw it around and I have no idea what it actually means... :/ It sounds kinda silly.

When you want your SO or even friends to play the role of one of your parents, then that means your emotional growth was not complete because of parents incapable of giving complete care required in your childhood making you need parental care even as an adult.

It means the person blames their life and mental status on the lack of one of their parents being present in their life or didn’t have the life they think they should have and they dwell on it and make everybody else listen to it over and over and over and over again.

@Keepitsimple Ooh no 😟
when the mommy/daddy werent the loving mommy/daddy a child should have when they are young, the child most likely will have mommy/daddy issues.

Usually it is about a person who has had difficulties becoming whole or whose identity has been thwarted by one or 2 parents. You can see that when adults still trying to please mummy or daddy way longer than they should.

@revenant Ahh, okay... I think I get it ◐.̃◐ eep

I have an issue with my father being a liar, bully, beater and an egocentric man.
I don't speak with him.
We don't use that term in Ireland much but I just think it's kids who can't deal or have had terrible times with their parents.
JupiterDreams · 31-35
@Dusty101 I'm sorry that happened to you. :<

@JupiterDreams 🤗 we kids didn't get beatings but another person did.
Glad it's over with and I never have to see him again.

I have daddy issues because my dad was a horrible piece of shit. it has affected my entire life into my adulthood, but now I realize it and I'm trying to work on my "daddy issues". There are we all happily labeled now?
Paintedfox · 41-45, F
@JupiterDreams thank you friend. It's okay. He died a few years ago and I'm working on so much and I'm happy with the person I am. Still working but I think of it as an advantage now 🖤

Having shitty parents effects children and the adults they become in negative ways, I think that is kinda what mommy & daddy issues means.
JupiterDreams · 31-35
@WeighedDown Ooh okay... I don't think I have those issues, even though my dad was a narcissist 😟

Its when you feel like your childhood is incomplete due to the incompetence of your parents. 🙂

It can mean a lot of things. Short answer, usually people mean it as they act out in someway either to get back, seek the validation of, or replace the attention of mom/dad.
