I've volunteered with the intellectually disabled on several occasions and I find them rather pleasant.

@Gouzi Back in high school, I volunteered for a bowling event for disabled adults. My job was sitting with the folks, making sure they took their turns, taking them to the restroom, and just talkin' to them to keep the party kind of alive. It was surprisingly difficult because they were frequently inattentive and difficult to communicate with, but they were also just super nice, happy people with a simple experience of life... kinda like a dog.
There was also a guy I worked with at regular service events with my school who happened to have a cognitive disability. I would teach him how to do simple things and he was almost always jovial. Fun dude.

@Gouzi what would you like to know? The people I worked with were released into the community after years of institutionalization.
They were suffering the effect of that as well as their disability. Some of the woman were rape victims who didnt like to be touched. Its such a vast topic. My job a senior support worker was to make up care plans for them & gradually with support of other staff members help them settle into their new homes. I did things like find clubs for them plan outings & dealt with anxieties they had.
I liased with there medical consultants & Gps. I found ways to communicate with some them through sound & touch if they couldnt communicate verbaly.
