@SW-Userhow's that going? Living a dream?
SW-User
@LikeTheSun Well throughout my entire professional career I had imposter syndrome. Having had to retire early I have the same issue which seems fair enough.

@SW-User oh I see. Have you been retired for long? Were you a software engineer by chance ?
SW-User
@LikeTheSun stopped work in June 2018 due to ill health. Made redundant in October 2018 formally fully retired October 2019.

I started as one but then Database Administrator then all kinds of management, programme, department, service delivery for last 10 years

@SW-User oh wow you must have a lot of experience! Did you like the work you did?

I'm actually about to study full time to become a software engineer.
SW-User
@LikeTheSun some highlights yes. Good luck with it. I originally was a software engineer working on avionics in the early 1980s

@SW-User thank you. Good luck with your retirement. I hope the imposter syndrome goes away! 鉂わ笍

@LikeTheSun I doubt it. I never went to university I was an old style trainee straight from school. Even into my late 40s when I was Chartered with 25 years experience I'd be rejected for jobs as "not a graduate".

My last job in the department I was in (a research university) everyone was PhD except two with masters and... Me! I was incredibly lucky to get away with it for so long

@SW-User oh I see. So are you saying it's hard to make it without a degree from a university?
SW-User
@LikeTheSun in UK I'd advise you to get one if you can it'll open doors you may find otherwise shut. But not impossible if you have good experience and suitable professional training for relevant skills. Be easier with a degree if you want to move into UK now.
