It’s not the cost of impeachment, but the issue of going to trial to decide whether he deserves to remain in office or turning a blind eye to possible gross misconduct.
I realize that with the current makeup of the Senate and public disclosure of how each Senator votes, conviction is unlikely (but that doesn’t mean the issue shouldn’t be addressed).
There were 2 options....turn a blind eye to what he has done in conjunction with foreign government, or put it to a test to see if enough Senators feel his actions are serious enough to warrant removal from office.

Thank you for B.A. I actually usually avoid political questions (in order to avoid stepping into the middle of an argument), but I felt I should say something here.
