Why do people like to ask how your day went when they actually don’t want to know?

social construct niceties. it's okay, because i really don't wanna tell them how my day really went. i'd rather just say "fine".

@SW-User I usually say that if I know they wouldn’t care if I said anything other than fine or it’s okay

maybe i want to say "fine" for the same reason as you.
