Right ! Be warned ! I'm going to have a moan !

On my way to a meeting this morning and walking through the city i got physically stopped by five people !
All collecting for their different charities !

They weren't just stood there rattling tins. They ALL physically stood in front of me and asked for donations. And 'Did i know i can now leave a gift in my will ?' Or "You can become a regular gift-giver ! Please give me your bank account details...."

One or two you just shrug off and walk on. But i think this 'aggressive begging' is becoming more and more like an epidemic. And it's not right !

I'm sure i've mentioned before that at the start of the 2000's there were some 620 different registered charities dealing with the Cancer issue alone !
And just as an example, Cancer Research UK actually spent 413 Million Pounds last year !

It's estimated that voluntary funding supports 40% of ALL medical research in the UK.
And that can't be right.

I agree with you there. What you described is just a few steps away from coercion which is a crime.
It seems that charity has become big business fot certain people and it is difficult to know where the money goes.

I've read far too many stories of charity money being used in underhanded ways.
I personally support government funded retirement homes in my area because I think that's a good cause but they will never get my bank account details for monthly donations.

...and the phone solicitation never stops. Charities are big business here in the States. It isn't unusual for charities to spend 85% or more on salaries and "fund raising" activities and give less than 15% of the money collected to the people/causes they claim to be helping.

That’s both annoying, and very sad.

Why is it that human beings have to be forced to help other people? We suck as a species.

I didn't think they were allowed to do that.
