Colt will stop making ar-15 rifles for the civilian market?

Does anyone else think that colt "ar-15"s are a bit overpriced and overrated anyway?

I used to build AR's for a living, nice rifle, very ergonomic, but I never had any use for one my self. I'm sure when colt stops, 5 other companies will jump in to fill the gap.

@Steveinlandsea That's why we need a Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

@badminton It's not an assault rifle

@HoraceGreenley Here is Merriam-Webster dictionary's Definition of assault rifle:

"any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire.
also : a rifle that resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire."

This is also the definition of assault rifle according to the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

Seriously. @badminton this post isn't your soapbox

@Notanymore Really? I thought that was exactly what Similar Worlds was for.

@badminton the question was about a particular firearms manufacturer....I completely respect that you believe the government has a right to disarm civilians. That's your opinion. If you want to know why someone disagrees with you, you can make a post or on me and as long as you're respectful, I'll talk and listen.

If you have no concern that colt is overpriced and overrated, then why go so far off topic?

@Notanymore Colt is discontinuing the civilian AR-15 because it has been widely used in mass shootings, not because of the price. I'm offering n alternative viewpoint.

@badminton okay. That's a better way to state your thoughts on it. Thank you. I personally believe that they're discontinuing the at style rifles for civilian use, because they can't compete at their price level, even if they say things to pander political favor

@badminton I don't care what people that don't know anything about firearms say.

@HoraceGreenley Years ago I used to own an FN-49 .30-06 semi-auto rifle. 10 round fixed box magazine. You loaded it with stripper clips. From the bench with iron sights at the 100-yard range I could shoot a 5-inch group. Not great I admit, but it was a used, field-grade rifle.

@badminton Well I know the FN FAL was not all that accurate. What is the reputation of the FN-49?
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
@HoraceGreenley It was FN's pre-FAL rifle, probably late-1940's to early 50's. I believe it was one of the first semi-auto rifles adopted into European armies. Reviews say it is well regarded for its high quality manufacture and reliability. I owned it the '70s'-80's. It was a full-size infantry rifle, 23 inch barrel, about 9 lbs. Mine had a recoil pad on the stock, installed by the previous owner. Also, someone had cut the rear peep-sight into a V. I was able to find a replacement original rear peep-sight. I liked it because the recoil was quite mild for a .30-06, due to it's gas-operated semi-auto action.

@badminton Nice! The FAL came out after the FN-49.
