I've often wondered why we have an Irish celebration with a parade every year in NYC, and why do we dye the river green in Chicago, each St. Patty's Day? Are these a religious celebration or a heritage/nationalism celebration?
Why do those that have never been to Italy nor even speak Italian and were born and raised in Brooklyn, call themselves "Italian-American"-- Why are there no days celebrating English heritage?--- why do I hear no one claiming to be English-American? Why the differences within our own society? (singular) Do some suffer from feeling inferior and must identify with a culture other than their current environment?
