I found it enlightening when, as a white man, I had to travel to Asia to an area where it is 100% old school Chinese people. I was there for two weeks, almost no one spoke English, almost no signs were in English. It was the first time I was a minority - in this case very much in the minority. It changes ones perspective. I remember after five days or so I was buying some food and a white woman (New Zealander) was in line and we talked immediately, it was such a relief. And I thought "now I get it..."
