That's rather insightful. You have to think that anything that mainstream society celebrates, can't be a real threat to the power structure. On the other hand, those men did bring about very significant changes (India's independence and civil rights for Black people) so I think it is more that their image has been defanged and watered down.
It's true that today's celebrities are largely passive, encouraging peace and preaching about beauty for all while being largely morally ambiguous.
The question that we ask about our watered down history is: Are we only hearing what certain people want us to hear? Or are we hearing the truth about these leaders? I have a hard time believing that anyone can be so black and white where moral issues are involved.

@BlasphemousOptimist: Well there is lots of information around about both MLK and Gandhi, and neither were plaster saints. I don't think we can expect our revolutionaries to be 100% good people any more than we can expect that of artists. And both were threatening enough to society that they were killed for their work.
It's a good thing their revolutions weren't just "Cut off the head and the body dies," isn't it?

@BlasphemousOptimist: Yes, they understood something about how to actually get people to work together for real change. Maybe not enough, since neither really saw their full dreams, but more than most of us do.
What kind of revolution would you like to see?

At this point, I don't have a specific one in mind. I was just looking to dicker about the philosophy behind them :)

@BlasphemousOptimist: Well, just so I can dance in your revolution :)
I'll let you know when I figure it out lol. I'll need a face for it, obviously.
