Anyone that works or has worked in customer service?

How do you handle customers who are rude and resort to insults when you don't have the perfect answer/solution for them? I've worked in retail for five years and still sometimes struggle with how unpleasant some customers can be, and I find that I can become quite flustered and think about the situation for days afterwards...😓

Nah don’t take it personally. If you can refer it to a supervisor that’s prob your best bet. Say something like, hm let me see if my supervisor has a better idea on how to make this better. If that’s not an option, maybe you can say let me take down your number and I’ll have my supervisor call you about it. and if you have no supervisor who actually cares, then say, I’m sorry you feel upset/disappointed/ etc. how can i make this better? If it’s something you can do, great - do it. If it’s something you can’t, then explain that it’s not possible, you wish it was, is there something else i can do?

Worse case scenario refer them to one of your competitors.

@DoubleRings Thank you.
Usually I follow through with all those options given the situation, but I just blanked today and I probably made them even more dissatisfied. I guess I can only learn from it and try not to take it too seriously.
