how often are American homes actually invaded?

(i know i could google this, but I wanted opinions for actual people)

Honestly, and no this isnt some "americans iz dum" kind of post.

as a Kiwi, I hear so often from countless american shows (probably 70% of my media is american, unsurprisingly) about people being ready, for home invasions, or robberies etc, to protect themselves in dangerous situations.

Im sure horrible situations like that occur often in a country that massive, but of those of you that...own the weaponry to defend yourselves, when was the last time you were attacked or had your home invaded?

or another question, how often have you been in a situation like that?

The only reason I "own the weaponry" is that I like target shooting. They stay unloaded and locked in a safe when I am at home.

Yes it happens, but outside of some shifty inner city neighborhoods or sometimes a vacation home that the crooks think is empty it is rare enough that you may as well live in terror of being hit by lightening or having a coconut fall off the tree just as you walk under it and getting beaned.

@GoodoldBob oh recreational shooting is definitely common in smaller , less populated areas over here, yet in my area(slighlty run down in parts) ive only ever heard of probably 2 shootings almost ever.

@HeWhoLaughs I grew up in Chicago where they are pretty much a daily thing. I moved to a little hick town in North Carolina 12 years ago and in that time there have been all of two shootings and one of those was an inexperienced cop who pulled the trigger when he should not have.
