Is being provocative for the sake of riling people up just plain annoying?

Seems to be a lot of people here who post something provocative just to get people mad. Or play "Devil's Advocate" and will always take an opposing view just to argue. Many seem to think being smarmy and putting people down passes for political discourse. I've love to see a little more civility and logic.
