Had anyone gotten angry at you because you were honest with them?

Have they tried to guilt trip you to apologize and make you feel bad? My best friend got angry because I told her the truth about her being lazy and lying about working out and eating healthy. She asked me why is her aunt being brutal about her weight. I was respectful about what I said to her and was sincere but she got angry and now she won't talk to me. I'm not apologizing for being blunt. I wasn't mean or anything. She asked. She knows how blunt I am.

Usually when I want to be honest about something I know is going to sting, I try to soften it as much as I can. If you accuse her of being lazy and lying, the drawbridge will go up because those are moral judgements. Maybe she feels guilty about it already. If you make it clear that you're not judging her and want to help because you're worried, then the door will stay open and you can start the real conversation.
