I had some lady ignore my greeting and start barking her order at me. I said I'm doing great thanks for asking and she just gave me a look

Just because someone else is rude doesn't excuse you being rude back. The whole "I'm doing great, thanks for asking" thing comes off as really condescending and passive aggressive.
