Anyone ever move to a different country to live?

How was the transition?
Like as far as getting there, the culture, learning the laws etc...I always wonder about that. How hard it must be. Especially if languages are different.

I know someone moving to Mexico next years but she doesn't speak Spanish and I'm like🤔

I moved to Italy for a bit. They HATED foreigners. The really funny thing is I looked just like them and they would ask me what part of Italy my family was from. When I told them they shouted at me to GO THERE! Some of the laws were really strange as well such as they could just kick you out of your residence if they wanted since you weren't a citizen.

@SW-User I lived in Umbria. Never got as far south as Sicily.
Spent a 6 month summer on a Greek island last year. That was really good.

@curiosi That’s a horrible way to treat people. I have heard that they have 3 prices in restaurants, one for Italians, one for foreigners, and the highest prices go to Americans. As beautiful as some places are in Italy I have no desire to visit and spend my money there. No offense to those who have a more welcoming attitude towards Americans.

I've done that in Italy, France and Greece.Normally in UK.

If you're open minded and flexible and enjoy other cultures it will probably work out. Learning at least a little of the language goes a long way.

Stacking now in hopes of making a big move eventually. Somewhere with a lower cost of living.
@TheunderdogofNY well if you are currently in NY you can pretty much move anywhere in have a lower cost of living.

I think if you're flexible and reasonably confident you'll transition pretty quickly

I spent a Term teaching in Wales, and it was a pretty easy transition. The biggest challenge was driving on the wrong side of the car-and on the wrong side of the road from what I am used to. Other than that, most of the laws are similar.

I think that may go back to horse and buggy days. As far as the steering wheel being on the opposite side? I have NO idea. I’m just glad I was in a smaller town, and not Cardiff, or another large city!@iamnikki

@MrsKatherineArch oh ok, small town may not be bad
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
Well, it was close enough to the “big” cities, and a short drive to the ferry in Fishguard. 😁@iamnikki
i moved to a different country for a while, different language/culture ect. it was a different, it didn't take too long to pick up the language but the culture was so different that was the tough part.

Various to travel and live. English is widely used and many people are willing to help.

Just becareful of scammers as they will try to over price things just because you are American
Hasmita · M
Where are you thinking of going?
Hasmita · M
@iamnikki It doesn't go well for everyone but I do believe it's crucial to be flexible and open minded.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Hasmita what the retirement part, or moving to anothe country?
Hasmita · M
@iamnikki I meant moving to another country/culture.

I have done that three times. I would suggest the language classes first.
