I really first recognized the song significant in his work when there was a special memorizing for him cohosted by Annie Lennox. My first songs were off his Space Oddity Album in 1973. Back then everyone was “afraid” to listen to him because of his public declaration that he was gay.

I had a European friend that declared himself cool in 76 because he accepted his music and his sexual lifestyle. It was a real struggle for most people. It took a bit of time for people to accept Queen because Freddie was so wild.
