My mom always said "there are some things more valuable than money" I think respect would be one of those things. Besides. She was a very small woman and hitting her would have broken here.

@unclebuckwasagenius: I guess it depends on how you feel about money. To me, money has always simply been about surviving. I've survived for my entire adulthood with a lot less than a million dollars. I don't need luxuries. I'm happy to afford my necessities.
