Why do parents choose the pictures when their children are crying on Santa or the Easter bunny than smiling?

I think parents like embarrassing us. We have a family picture and my two brothers were frowning. My dad said there was one that they were smiling but he chose the frowning one. I asked why and he said, "Well I think it's more funnier and plus we want people to know you guys aren't perfect. Life isn't all smiles and great times."
There's a Christmas photo of my brothers and I with Santa and I was crying so much. I can't believe my parents let them take the picture like that. How embarrassing. I looked like I was 2 or 3. Even my oldest brother and his wife tried to get their daughters (twin neices) to smile but they just said to just take the picture.
My mom told me, "There wouldn't be no stories to tell and it's funnier." Do our parents like embarrassing us?

Yes, that seems unnecessary and cruel. My parents did that to my brother a few times. I thought it was hilarious at the time, but looking back it wasn't good.
