US Federal law says a maximum of 25% of your wage or 30 times the minimum wage, whichever is less. However, child support I believe is different in each state because that isn't technically a garnishment per se, so in my state child support is a maximum of 34% of your wage.

Child support here in North Carolina is court ordered if a voluntary amount is not settled before an attorney. A judge determines the rate based on earnings of both parents etc.
