why do many spread rumors and speculation as if they are fact , yet when called out they say “ I didn’t know it wasn’t true “

“ well did you know it was true “ usually after this then get emotional either start crying or get angry and say “ well every one was saying it “ over and over again

Immaturity, ignorance and self absorption.
People of a less civilized mind will gossip without thinking or caring, when they get caught out they'll say and do anything other than apologizing and they continue to do this over and over so cut ties with people like this.
If its a family member then distance yourself and don't share any infomation with them ever again
