Should large scale exhibitions be brought back?

In the late 19th and early 20th century, large exhibitions were staged in cities across the US and the UK, such as the Pan-American exhibition of 1901 in Buffalo and the Empire Exhibition of 1938 in Glasgow. Usually as a means of showcasing industrial and cultural advancements.

Should something similar be staged today?
Why do you think they are not?

the last one, on a global scale was just two years ago. I'm sure another one will crop up. But they tend to be in one location, every few years. I remember Vancouver in 86

@CaptainMac Interesting, not the kind of place you'd expect one but I guess now they go all over.
