We didn't have mobile phones when I was at school - come to think of it, not every family even had a home phone!

As teaching staff....i cant have my phone in class time so nor should the kids!
marsbar · F
I did it with an adult ESL student a few years ago because he was texting & not paying attention to the lesson. I kept it at the front on my desk & gave it back to him after class & gave him a pep talk. I never had an issue with him again or other students.

my teachers got so mad if we had out cell phones out even during homework time.
ASouthernGentleman · 31-35, M
What did they do if you did?@Caraa97
@Caraa97 makes sense though
ASouthernGentleman · 31-35, M
Absolutely they should. Kids are there to learn not to be on their phone.

I don't think the classroom is any place for a cell phone.
Yes, if they're on them during class.
maturemum · 56-60, F
Absolutely agree!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Agree, we couldn’t even have a transistor radio in class unless someone had an earphone and wired it up their sleeve and hid the earpiece with their hair.

@hippyjoe1955 mine was blue I tell you.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SW-User Ha ha I don't doubt you for a second. I suspect that here in Canada we may have had more restrictions on what could be imported from Japan.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 J Pan? 😛
just tell them to put them on silent - I dont want to hear the old line from a parent saying - "what if it is an emergency" ? - hey thats what we have teachers and administrators for.

A classroom is not the place for cell phone use. On the other hand a teacher has no right to the phone either. They could fail me, suspend me or expel me but they can't confiscate my property.

i think a warning to silence it first before taking it.
then perhaps communicate to the child's parents that it should be off during class.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@EmilyMom Everyone gets warnings...even in classes the police give for driver safety the people are warned and in each class at least one or more gets booted out because they refuse to stop texting while the class is going on.
maybe just leave them in the locker? to easy to cheat with one on
english · 56-60, M
sorry Angel, have to agree why would you need it during class? 🤔
That's a tough call. The phones aren't the teacher's property, but if they become a distraction to the student or the other students, I think it's probably good they're taken away while class is in session.
GirlSerendipity · 26-30, F
@PhoenixPhail a 'tough call' . . . hah! bad pun!!
@GirlSerendipity OMG! You saw that before I did. I wouldn't have seen that had you not pointed it out. Seriously. 😂
Agree - what do you think Angel?

Agree. You're grounded.

Definitely agree
Hellllll no. Not their property. They can tel them to put it in their backpack. But personally I hated when teachers did that, you never know what text could pop up on the screen and teachers could see it.

Naw let them play on games all lesson as class is boring 🤣 joking. I think they should be aloud to have them with them on silent like we do at colleges as long as they aren’t constantly using them.

I disagree... Unless they are found to be using them IN class. At which point you punish those who are doing wrong with confiscation.
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
I don’t have kids... because this world is a weird place when you have to ask questions like this
Agree, if they're found using them in class, or are suspected of using them during class.
Dadbod52 · 56-60, M
What about the mass shootings? How they gonna call?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Dadbod52 no need if we have armed teachers and faculty.
