How would you react to a teenager who thinks you can't look after yourself?

I can look after myself. This is what has pissed me off. I run my own business, I cook and look after my whole family and clean up after their damn crap they leave everywhere. I am absolutely fuming. I told him he took the banter too far and such but I literally just don't know how to handle this. Especially as this has come from my own younger brother. I mean his other sister isn't in much better shape either. Pregnant. Possibly going to end up single. Because of her stupidity in lying about being on contraception. Now I definitely dont feel a need to hang around tbh. I mean what's the point when everyone thinks I'm a waste of space.
You should consider why he is telling you these things. If you have no respect for him, is choices or what he has to say, why does it upset you so much?

@TwiddlerofThumbs he gets it from my toxic sister. She twists everything and makes everything about her. She keeps pushing me and the family apart. I feel like nothing matters now
@Silentangel I've found in my family, ignoring toxic people is the only way to keep them from tearing familes apart. Which can be difficult, everyone needs to be on the same page about it. As in, Me and my husband plus our children all ignore everything my mother in law does or says. If we did not, I would be in prison and my family would be in shreds. Don;t let toxic people run the show.
Which also means, do not, DO NOT, give him a reaction when he says hurtful, derogatory things.

@TwiddlerofThumbs yeah I know I'm good at what I do. I can't do regular work due to health. I mean for some reason employers don't want someone that goes dizzy every ten minutes 馃槀. So I've decided to develop my sowing skills which is recognised by big companies and started to encourage others in my situation to get crafty too.

I'd like to hope I'm teaching him good lessons in that anything is possible no matter who you are and how your health is. I thought I taught him better and to be more respectful than this 馃

@SageAdvice yeah true, I don't feel particularly happy in my own home atm. I should do. But I dont. It's frustrating really. I'll just have to lose my temper with them again 馃槀

I tend to not take the opinions of children very seriously, especially as they pertain to my life choices. What would they know anyway?
Silentangel26-30, F
@SwampFlower exactly. He's 13. But there's no need to go and say that.
SwampFlower31-35, F
@Silentangel He's literally a child and has no clue what he's talking about. Think about why what he said upset you so much, though.
Silentangel26-30, F
@SwampFlower it's not that it's more it's nice know that he doesn't even look up to me as a role model and thinks so little of me
LyricalOneF

Silentangel26-30, F
