Have you...

Have any of you cut off a person or family member because they were toxic? How did you go about it and if you do have that toxic person in your life how do you cope with it?

I cut off a friend a few years ago who was toxic to themselves. He desperately wanted friendship, but it always felt like a forced friendship, not a natural one. They had drinking and social issues and I felt like more of a babysitter than a friend. Eventually I stopped communication and left him behind. Unfortunately he committed suicide last year as he had a mountain of issues that all became too much for him. I don't feel guilty over what happened as he was in too deep, and hadn't spoken to him in close to 5 years. I have learnt in life that I would rather have a handful of good friends, than bucket loads of 'meaningless friends'.

Yeah I did the same thing to a female friend because I am the suicidal non sociable person so I cut myself off from her and her choice of close friends instead of them pushing me away eventually. I regret it but it’s what I do @Laughman
