It would take a special kind of asshole to not want to help someone. Most people feel tied down cause they feel they're helpless or don't have the means. I guess it just depends on how determined one is to do something about a particular situation or how much they believe in themselves to cure social issues.

@Dwari People back then didn’t let things go to waste even if they had money to buy cloth. I’ve seen a farm-lady take a big bag of snuff bags made out of muslin cloth and rip open the seams and flatten them out to sew together in one piece to make a quilt backing. It was a lot of work and muslin cloth was cheap back then.
