Should the States build a wall to keep out the immigrants?

Since most immigrants don't come in through the southern border, a wall wouldn't really help. More technology, more manpower and better processing of immigrants we do get, would be helpful.

@Pherick Hmmm???

This is just one of the border crossings at Laredo ...

Notice which direction the cars are heading? This is 24x7.

@Heartlander I am not sure what you are trying to show here?

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/08/despite-trumps-claims-most-illegal-immigration-is-not-at-the-southern-border.html
Government data shows that arrests are down at the border compared with the Obama administration as most illegal immigration occurs when people overstay their temporary visas.
During fiscal 2017, the Department of Homeland Security found that the number of immigrants that overstayed their visas was more than double those apprehended at the border during the same time frame.
@Pherick

Most traffic into the US comes via the southern border. Legal and otherwise. The image I posted is duplicated 50+ times between Brownsville and San Diego.

There's a paper trail for those who overstay a visa. Documentation on who they are and where they came from.

There is no documentation for people who cross illegally.

Comparing visa overstays to illegals crossers is like comparing people with delinquent mortgage payments to bank robbers.

@Pherick Comparing overstays to border apprehensions at the border is meaningless. Like a hotel guest that left without checking out. The hotel knows who he/she is.

@Heartlander They might know WHO, but they have no idea where. Do you think all the overstays just hang out at the address they gave to the government and wait for ICE to show up?

Its not meaningless at all, you just don't like what the numbers say, so hence "they are meaningless"
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Pherick They are two different issues. It's like you are saying that the police shouldn't be wasting time with bandits robbing the corner grocery store because there are swindlers stealing billions via internet fraud.

Visa overstays are protected by sanctuary cities and states. Fixing that issue will take different steps. Interestingly, I don't see very many Democrats or their media propaganda outlets wanting to fix that issue, yet they use it as a reason why a wall is unnecessary.

If it wasn't for the human suffering, this would be a joke.

@Heartlander The point is if the number of visa overstays is larger than the number of people apprehended at the border then what good would a wall do? Border crossing illegal immigration is going down and has been for years.

So why not focus money and effort on things that actually provide border security.

Your example only works if I want police to not worry about the 10 bandits when there are thousands of swindlers. Then your example works. Its a question of resources and where best to use them
