Should the States build a wall to keep out the immigrants?

Just my view... and I'm not an American ... blah blah blah....

I don't understand where anybody starts to think they have the right to stop someone going to live somewhere? I get doing it legally and all that but look at where I live (UK) wave upon wave of immigrants over the centuries. Romans, Anglo Saxons, Vikings, Normans (old Vikings just living somewhere else by then anyway)

Then the Portuguese that brought us fish n chips which we consider our national dish.
To the recent West Indian and Asians who came from our old colonies to help us run "the mother nation". And to now the Europeans we've enjoyed coming here for 40 years to help again make our country grow and flourish.

So what's English? Often those arguing for closed borders themselves come from families that only recently relocated here (relatively speaking like a couple of hundred years).

In America it is a nation of immigrant - only a couple of percent is the indigenous people who were there before the pilgrims and the settlers through the 16th to 20th century.

I just think it all makes a place better if you have lots of people coming to your country and integrating but bringing a bit of their culture too.

And we can have all that with LEGAL Immigration!
Everybody wins!

@SW-User I see...so the taxpaying citizen of a country has who is also say a veteran from its military and fought for that country has NO RIGHT to prevent an ILLEGAL immigrant from entering their country or for that matter any immigrant?

Is that the same right you don't have on the smaller scale to prevent someone who fancies living in your house because his is a dirty wreak from entering through the front door (since you don't believe in walls so I guess you don't believe in locks, either) and living in your front room or bedroom or anywhere else he wishes with his wife and family without paying rent while you pay for his medical bills and subsidize his life generally?

Have you actually spent more than one minute actually thinking about this or do you take your cures from the media...the members of which usually dwell in gated and walled communities? I doubt it.

BTW do you happen to live in a gated or in any other way protected community?
Budwick70-79, M
@Abrienda Abrienda - I read your posts / comments nearly every day. And, I wonder - how did someone so young, get so smart, so fast?!

You should meet my friend RebelWolf - he's a smart young person too!

Thank you for being you!
Abrienda26-30, F
@Budwick Losing both my parents at 16, having no money, living in Israel with my godparents while I studied nursing where they have two border walls that work and solely supporting myself and at 21 going to work as a nurse in the middle of nowhere in Saudi Arabia ... a hard life makes you want to keep the things you get by work and sacrifice and not allow idiots to try and give them away just to make them feel better about themselves.
Budwick70-79, M
@Abrienda Wow - Abrienda - I just love you!
Not in a romantic way, but in a respectful, human way.
There aren't many like you in the world.
But you and those like you are why the world has hope.

May you always be safe and happy.
Abrienda26-30, F
@Budwick Thank you! I am just sick of these people telling ME what I should do to reach THEIR high moral level with their third-grade education and worldview...NO ONE who has come from absolute poverty thinks like that (and if they say they did are lying) and have nothing to tell us about the world,

And thank you I am very happy! true love does that to you, yes?馃
Abrienda26-30, F
@SW-User BTW the "nation of immigrants" argument is especially silly and juvenile as the "indigenous inhabitants" (oh ... you mean INDIANS?)were themselves immigrants from Asia and Central America, as any decent book on the subject would have told you.
SW-User
@Abrienda an oft quoted supposed parallel about the house. But I see that differently I own that little bit of my country but I could move and buy a little bit of your country. BTW no I don't live in a gated community I wouldn't want to.

To me though if walls had existed 1000 years ago I'd be a celt in the kingdom of Kent closed off from Wessex, Sussex, Essex, Mercia and Northumberia. England would never have been at all so we would not have sailed to Virginia. The pilgrims wouldn't have settled in Plymouth as there would have been a wall to stop them anyway so America would still be divided between the native American tribes.

Borders are transitory imaginary lines drawn by men on maps that one day will be dust.
SW-User
@Abrienda you exactly answer my point. We are all transitory immigrants our only home land is the rift valley of Africa
Abrienda26-30, F
@SW-User You may not like the "parallel" but my ANALOGY is so compelling that you refuse to engage it and because you are not intellectually or morally equipped to refute it, dismiss it. A classic Leftist ploy that sadly no longer works...even here.
SW-User
@Abrienda and there ends why I fail to discuss it with people like you. I did engage with it I said I don't BELIEVE it is a good analogy.

If so why don't we stop all foreigners buying freeholds within the country? Much of London where I live is owned by foreign investors.
Budwick70-79, M
@SW-User
Borders are transitory imaginary lines drawn by men on maps that one day will be dust.
While that's all very uplifting and promises a brighter future and all - the borders are imaginary lines - until barriers are built when the threatened.

There are zillions of reasons to protect our country from illegal entry. We don't have the luxury of even considering moving to the boonies as you suggested.

The UK has been over run by immigrants in the recent past. How's that working out for ya?
Abrienda26-30, F
@SW-User No, it proves the inanity of your position as you have now just admitted, since by YOUR logic no one has a right to anything anywhere ...including YOU. You typing your replies from the comfort of a cold street corner, or from inside a property you (falsely) think you have some right to?

Also you need to freshen your information base. It is just as likely mankind originated from the modern Georgia nor came from only ONE area at all...as people who actually read books about this sort of thing that are less than 30 years old know.

Nothing more to say to you about this that would not be a repetion of what I already wrote. Enjoy your anarchist fantasies until they become reality which, if you are in UK or Western Europe, wont be long now.
SW-User
@Budwick it's very nice here in the UK thanks had been since the Romans came here....

I've some fantastic friends from Poland, Greece, India, Spain, all over. Like all the generations of immigrants we've welcomed they have helped the country grow and added to our current culture.

Funny... Overrun? Still under 1 in 7 of our population were born outside the UK but actually only 1 in 11 has non UK citizenship. To be overrun I'd expect them to out number those born here.
SW-User
@Abrienda nice agism as well as racism

The Georgian finds are interesting at least but are still later than similar Homo Erectus finds in Africa. So as yet unproven I'd wager.
Budwick70-79, M
@SW-User YEah, it's been a few weeks since the Romans came.

I also have friends from around the world. That's no reason to allow illegal immigration.

Although it is difficult to measure how many people reside in the UK without authorisation, a Home Office study based on Census 2001 data released in March 2005 estimated a population of between 310,000 and 570,000. Many of them have children.

Well, maybe your problems are small in comparison. We've got over 30 million here.
Abrienda26-30, F
@SW-User Does that "very nice" include the 14-16 year old BRITISH girls from Rotherham sold into sex-slavery by Pakistani gangs? I suppose THEY were not allowed into Britain as immigrants but were part of the "indigenous population" of the island 3,000 years ago? And Birmingham now too, yes? Oh well as you have made clear the lives and safety of a nation's CITIZENS don't mean very much to you, even if its your own, does they?
SW-User
@Abrienda oh the rape gangs.... The terrific gift to the right wing.

First I totally abhor what happened which on inspection, if you read the investigations, was as much a failing by our social services ignoring or pigeonholing working class white girls as troublemakers who weren't helped appropriately.

Secondly the vast majority of pedophile cases in the UK are still convicting white UK born men. We didn't import pedophiles we had more than enough here already
Abrienda26-30, F
@SW-User "Ageism?" My God how pathetic ... you saying you are unable to read anything less than 30 years old? So what dies that make me guilty of now in your moral universe? "IrrelevantISM"? "Update-Your-InformationISM? or "You-Don't-Know-What-You-Are-Talking-AboutISM? Lord you must be fun at a party...provided there is an American-style safe zone nearby for you to run and hide in. Or have I now just committed the moral sin of "Characterising-You-As-A-TwatISM".

Do you a SINGLE original thought in your head that wasn't given you by some talking head on the BBC? Cause really you are incredibly predictable...and boring.

Bye now!
SW-User
@Abrienda shame I'd love try and understand your anger and why you seemingly have to resort to insults to get your point across rather than giving me something I can relate and agree with. But I can agree that I'll probably always disagree with you. And aren't we lucky to live in countries where having another opinion is allowed and does not mean the police will kick over of our doors in and drag us off to some institution for our correction to begin.
Bye now
Budwick70-79, M
@Abrienda
TwatISM
Abrienda26-30, F
@Budwick If the Twat fits, ISM-it!

"Ageism"...what kind of "man" says that?
Abrienda26-30, F
@SW-User Yup! Papua New Guinea has certainly made a lot of contributions to world culture, especially culinary...I got a cookbook from there right here...oh yeah! "Australian Missionary Stew"! Cultural improvement coming to a kitchen near you!

What a shame you despise your own culture so much you must feel the need to embrace and elevate others?
SW-User
@Abrienda I love my own culture.... Fish n chips, Portuguese import, chicken Tikka Masala.... Actually invented in Glasgow.... Rabbit pie... Romans....

That's my point culture is an amalgam due to immigration it expands culture it doesn't inhibit it.
Budwick70-79, M
@SW-User
the UK are still convicting white UK born men
Ah, so you progressive Brits don't like white men either, eh?
