Why is posting screenshots against the rules?

Isnt it better than just word of say, or if the person removed the original evidence as a solid form of proof?

I don't have a definitive answer, but I would say that naming members and/or posting screenshots many times adds fuel to the fire and causes more drama than it is worth. The developers have the reporting system for a reason. When you click the button to report inappropriate behavior the system tracks the report and reason. Even though you may not hear back from them immediately that data is still there and a history is being built. This way if the person is genuinely a troll or committing illegal acts then it is tracked and they have the data saved if law enforcement has to be involved or to document their reason for banning them from the site. None of that happens when you post your screenshots or make a post about another user. It just incites gang mentality many times and causes a negative situation as the feeds fill up with people weighing in from both sides. Maybe a SW Admin will weigh in and agree or disagree on my synopsis. My comment is based on the fact that I work in the technologies field and I have been an admin on many sites over the years.

@Fungirlmmm I get what ur saying, but how about screenshots exposing trolls being trolls? I mean I would think that if group mentality is done in the comment sections why not call em out in posts? Sometimes its not really about reporting but giving them a taste of their own medicine, or when u feel like responding back wont do anygood in the situation so might as well just show the evidence of the ongoing harassment.

And besides, reports often dont work until a lot of ppl report it, cos the admins want to "give the people what they want"

@wakanda4eva If you report those screenshots you don't need to post screenshots elsewhere. You are actually distracting the admins when you do because they are having to go to your screenshots and then backtrack it when you could have simply reported it in the first place and the raw data wouldn't have to be traced it would be there. And most sites have lock mechanisms in place that if certain criteria is met it will either limit the reported member or it will hide the reported post until it is released by someone with admin or higher access. If the page is saved in your browser you may still be able to see it because the agent browser hasn't pulled the site for the latest version but other users wouldn't be able to view it until it is released. I may be giving to much tech info out, but lets just say if you are not a troll it is better for you to report a post than to try to point it out. Plus trolls just love attention so you are feeding them by using their name and/or screenshots. Plus a huge reason not to do it is it is against the TOS and I kind of like having you here and wouldn't want you to get deleted for something silly like breaking TOS. If you are gonna get banned make it for something really spectacular.

@wakanda4eva And I have noticed from my blocks that the "banned logos go up sometimes within minutes of me reporting a person. I generally block them if I report them though so I don't see their offensive actions after. I will see them deleted almost immediately but sometimes it takes awhile for the report to come back. I don't report a lot but I do know someone or something is working them because the user disappears and has the logo for banned on my block page.

@Fungirlmmm the problem is some dont love the attention and just want to hide in peoples comments sections, heck I do too 👀 thats why my replies are hidden, which is also to prevent stalking, or have to resort to only being able to shade post about someone, the point being I dont think screenshots should be prohibited because it restricts the source of proof and evidence to rebutt someone, like maybe more so in comments when trying to bring up someones past to rebutt what their saying , which actually to my knowledge when I did so before wasnt removed, But I get how it can divide a community, maybe it is better for drama to be more low key, especially in making posts about other people, but thanks for all the information haha. Which then again thats why youtube is drama central and more easier to expose ppl because they allow u to make videos about people under fair use.

@wakanda4eva How would you feel if you were in an intimate relationship with someone and you had given the person your phone number, email, shared pics of yourself or your home life? You were very close to this person but you had a disagreement that went too far so they retaliate by posting those screens showing that personal information. Do you still think it is a good idea to post acreenprints? Additionally, by the time you are old enough to be a member of a site that allows adult posts and nudity you should be mature enough to take disagreements and keep them out of the public areas where they ruin the experience for other users. That is why the tools are there to mute, block, and report. Many of us come here for a break from very stressful jobs and more than a few of us work with this type of technology and the last thing we want to see is users going after each other in the public threads. Debate that is handled in a rational fashion is one thing but looking at PM's of people calling one another names or being petty just take away from my experience and I would block a person that continually did that. I know more than a few others that would, and do as well.

@Fungirlmmm i think u misunderstood me, I wasnt talking about private dms, that I can understand, but screenshots of public comments and posts the person made.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@wakanda4eva oh just report that. They are saved in the metadata anyway. You don't need screenshots. When you click the report it is linked anyway. And they can restore the deleted data. Nothing ever truly goes away on the www. It is just archived. ;)
@Fungirlmmm I'm coming back here from Google plus and I totally agree with everything you posted. It was the wild west there and anything would get posted there. I myself owned and moderated communities of half a million users. The security features here preventing the ease of screenshoting is nice. The trolling though is just a matter of time away. People will just use VPNs to side step the security here and use multiple accounts to flood the place with bots.

@jetpack There is new technology to unmask the proxies now. I saw it at a technologies presentation for my company and it was surprisingly accurate in comparison to the older stuff.
