It depends on the structure of values in which you place yourself in.
Perhaps a person doesn't find themselves fitting in the value structure they're living in so they don't feel confident in relation to what other's who also exist within it value, as your perception of value/worth is placed on what they value.
I think confidence is relative to our feelings of value.

So a way forward would be to find what you value and where you lack in that structure. So if you value responsibility then find a way to be more responsible and practice that, if it's intelligence then educate yourself, if it's physicality then exercise.

But I find as a more practical approach, do 2-3 things a day that you KNOW you should be doing but don't. Make yourself uncomfortable as adversity is the realm in which growth is created. If we can learn to be a dependable person to ourselves then we have confidence, as the person driving the vehicle so to speak is in control and you've proved it to yourself.

@Ryannnnnn I really like that answer!

@SigmundFraud I think it's true, if you're everything your society values then you're confident in that society, but if you were to be placed in a tribe in which you have no idea of their values you would be all of a sudden extremely anxious and feeling completely useless in relation to those people.
It's where we feel on the heirarchy in terms of status, and that is defined by the pre-suppositions of what we value in our societies.
