Depends on what the product is.
1.The demand for the product could make it expensive taking into account the man and material it needs to meet the demand. If none is easy to get, it makes it expensive.
2. The rarity. If it's some rare material like the worthless diamond jewelry that some people love to wear, it will be expensive as diamond is not available readily in nature.
Same applies to Gold. Gold is rare and its mining is tedious. Gold and diamond are used to make certain products that are pretty expensive. Diamond being the hardest material is used in some drill bits and gold being a great conductor of electricity is used in some circuit panels. So any of those products will be expensive.
3. The brand value. They don't necessarily make better products than the low priced ones. A $100 phone all that a $1,000 iPhone does and even more, but the brand makes it expensive depending on the loyalty and trust customers have in the product.
