we financed him during the Russian/Afghanistan war when his group was part of the Mujahideen.. then we abandoned them to thier fate.. he later became a leader in alquaida..

This is the only accurate answer... Fun fact: during the 1st Gulf War, Bin Laden and the US were in competition over who would guard Saudi Arabia. The US won. Bin Laden didn't take the loss well.
